Gasto Promotions gig last night with the Band of Friends + Big River at the Forum in Darlington...........................
An excellent Gasto Promotions gig last night with the Band of Friends + Big River at the Forum in Darlington. Thanks to all who turned up, a great turn out. Rory Gallagher does still seem to have a great fan base in the north east and his old rhythm section and Dutch guitarist Marcel Scherpenzeel did him proud.
Surprise of the evening was support band Big River who played a brilliant set of Southern Country Rock, [The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynryd, Neil Young etc]. It's not usual that the crowd demand an encore from the support band, but they did deserve it!
I think these guys are ones to look out for and hopefully they will be returning to the Forum soon. Mike Prendergast
What an amazing night of music at the forum last night. Thank you to Mike Prendergast for inviting us. The band of friends were incredible and awesome support from band big river . Kim N Dave Mcniff
I would agree Big River were Amazing. I'm sure they will be back at The Forum from what Mike Prendergast (Promoter) said. Great night, they were better than the Head line for me.

`If Neil Young, The Eagles, Creedence, The Outlaws, CSNY, The Byrds & the likes is your
" bag '' then go and see these guys, you won't be disappointed, great band! Boy could they all sing, great harmonies, also I think every band member sang a song and did a brilliant job, They covered songs by, Neil Young, (Harvest Moon went down a storm), The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Byrds and the song of the night for me was "Perfectly Good Guitar, by John Hiatt, it was awesome!! There was a huge crowd in for them lapping every minute up, I can't wait to see them again`!
Club favourites BIG RIVER return this week bringing West Coast & Southern rock from the likes of THE EAGLES, NEIL YOUNG, JOHN HIATT, MATHEWS SOUTHERN COMFORT, TOM PETTY, CSNY, STEVE EARL, CCR and many more. Superb harmonies and musicianship from these five lads make them one of the top bands performing this genre of music.

Went to see big river at the market tavern in Chester on Fri. night. Hearing good reports about these guys being good at the material they do. Tried to see them new years day at st Cuthbert’s club in Chester but the venue was sold out..
By all accounts they were awesome on the day, comedian BINGO and a piper to finish the evening off.
Bet that was good to see. Well did get to see them at the Tavern on Friday and I wasn't disappointed. Keep up the good work lads, sorry couldn’t get to see you a the Duke of Albany...
Do you think John will ever sing GA GA?

My partner dragged me out on Saturday night, said there was a band on at the office where he had seen on a few occasions, well taking the chance to get out with him, which in reality is every week, we ended up at the Office in shields, where Big River were booked, I had heard of them, but not that interested, because of Mmmm............ The Eagles! Neil Young. I thought ok, its a band, I like live music, give it a go, WELL, they were impressive, they all sang, and harmonized, fantastically well, and when Aynsley done the Neil Young stuff I thought if you closed your eyes it was actually him, he even looked like him with that hat and the way he moved, the drummer gave a great performance of Love Will Keep us Alive, what a voice he has, but Copperhead Road done it for me, the singer was first class, They have a young guy on bass who only looked 18 years of age Mmmmm, but could he play the bass! He sang Hotel California, which was fantastic for a bass player as he was putting in the runs, and the guitar solos were first class. I will be looking out for them in the future, Well Done Lads!

Watched a handful of tunes the other night in Whitley by this lot. Wish we could've stayed for the whole set, really great band. Two classy guitarists and four of the band singing - lush vocal harmonies that were faultless. So many bands try this kind of thing and don't quite cut it. But Big River did cut it - the results were pure ear candy.

I wrongly assumed with 2 new guys in that you might have some teething issues, and that things may not be fully polished. But I was completely wrong. The band sounded tighter than ever, the harmonies were better, and your lead singer sang better too. Last couple of times I've seen you play, he's had a tendency to slip out of key on a few tunes. Don't know whether that was a past monitor problem where he couldn't hear himself properly, but for every song this time he was bang on.
A very noticeable and delightful improvement all around.
Nice one!

These guys made probably their fifth appearance at Steels last night and it is great to see how much they have improved over the last couple of years. I have always liked the band because of their set list but now after a couple of line up changes and with plenty more gigs under their belts they really have come together. Crackin' solo vocals from Alan, Aynsley and Billy and tight harmonies from the whole band make them IMO one of the best bands around performing this genre of music. West Coast and Southern rock of the more commercial nature, with a heavy influence of The Eagles and Neil Young in the set list, were played to a very appreciative audience, so if this is your cup of tea music wise, get along to see these lads you won't be disappointed. Since their first appearance at the club this band have gone from strength to strength and have become firm favourites with the club regulars. Bringing covers of THE EAGLES, NEIL YOUNG, JOHN HIATT, CSNY, STEVE EARL, CCR, TOM PETTY and LYNYRD SKYNRYD these lads are up there with the best for musicianship and vocal harmonies. Not to be missed for any fan of this genre of music.
Enjoyed the gig at sleepers, good songs played great, good night.
